Here in Miami, weekends mean brunch and this weekend was no different. My friend Caitlinn was visiting for the weekend and after careful deliberation and researching all 400 of Miami’s brunch spots (well not really but almost), we agreed to check out Yardbird Southern Table and Bar on South Beach. Known for its Southern comfort food, we knew that we had to stick with the classics.
First up, buttermilk biscuits: fresh house-baked biscuits, honey butter, and a home-made apple spiced jam. Fluffy, warm, soft on the inside, and crunchy on the outside: everything you ever dreamed a biscuit to be and more.
The main dish (which we shared) was Yardbird’s classic: Chicken N Watermelon N Waffles, composed of Yardbird’s signature ‘old school fried chicken’, honey hot sauce, chilled spiced watermelon, cheddar cheese chow chow waffle, bourbon maple syrup.
Our verdict? 10/10. Yes, we spent $47 plus tax, but we left with bellies filled and happy souls. 🙂
Delicious chicken and waffles aside, my brunch outfit of the day consisted of an olive, bare-back tank top, found in the depth’s of my roommate’s closet. The top doesn’t even have a tag on it, so I can’t even tell you where it’s from, but it’s cute so I’ll let that slide. My top is paired with a plain pair of skinny jeans [that I actually bought 6 years ago in Aeropostale for $6.99 [lol] when I used to work there in high school). The brown leather bag is from Zara; not my usual style but works perfectly for when I’m going for a more earthy vibe.
However, the winner of today’s brunch outfit is my pair of UGG ‘Audrey’ Peep Toe Booties in black. I recently bought these open-toed booties from Marshall’s for $50 and they’re my newest addition to my shoe collection. Although I function on a college-student-budget, I deemed these shoes a wise investment because they’re great for all-day wear. Also, I’m impressed with the quality of all my UGG boots, so I trust that these booties will be equally comfortable and of great quality.
Side note though, I could probably argue that all my shoes are great investments 🙂
